If you thought that a spa on every nook and cranny is something that you only see in Bali or Bangkok, you’re underestimating saddi Dilli. Gone are the days when a spa was just confined to exotic locations – sprawling over obscene square feets on a beach or tucked away in a highly luxurious resort screaming opulence and exclusiveness. The notion that only those with deep pockets could afford it, has also been proven obsolete by the number of spa centres that have come up in the capital lately.
Gurpreet Singh, Marketing Manager, Body Spa International, says, “We’ve opened up standalone spa centres in locations like a mall in Rajouri Garden to let the masses experience it.
The prices we offer are within the reach of the larger population, unlike of those which have opened up in hi-fi locations.”
Adds Sanjay Sahni, owner of Kyna Salon and Wellness Spa in Naraina Vihar, “It is an expanding market now, and not only caters to five-star spa goers, but also to others.” So to get pampered and relaxed, you don’t have to get a ticket booked to Rishikesh, Goa or Kerala or some other spa destination. You just have to walk into the nearest salon in Delhi to experience various spa treatments at amazingly reasonable prices.
When Maria Akram, 21, went to get a haircut from a parlour in Greater Kailash, she ended up paying for a hair spa as well. “These people get pushy and entice you into spa packages, free services etc. So I didn’t mind getting one done. Moreover, it wasn’t very expensive,” she said. Maria is not alone, there are many like her who get cajoled into such spa treatments in their neighbourhood salons. “I end up indulging in nail spas and massages even when I go to the salon for a completely different purpose,” says Shreya Gupta, a Delhi University student.
“Right now students are a chunk of our customer base since holidays are going on, and also because our special spa services start from `400. There are so many options in nail art, starting from `40 to 3000 and so on. The location of this spa gets us a lot of customers who come to the mall to shop or eat,” said Meetu Anand, owner of Nail Spa by Gurpreet at a mall in Rajouri Garden.
So the next time you feel exhausted and spent, you won’t have to look too far to get rejuvenated as a spa is just around the corner.
